The NBA’s mission to be the world’s most successful and respected sports league is guided by a commitment to growing the game of basketball worldwide and demonstrating leadership in social responsibility. That’s why at many league events, basketball and community service go hand in hand. Working in cooperation with community partners, NBA Cares hosts a variety of community outreach efforts during NBA All-Star Weekend, the Finals, the NBA Draft or international preseason games. These activities provide teams and players with the opportunity to give back to the local community.

Throughout the month of April, the NBA is partnering with Autism Speaks to recognize April as National Autism Awareness Month. Since its inception in 2005, Autism Speaks has made enormous strides. The league and its teams will raise fan awareness about autism through a variety of events.
During NBA All-Star, the league celebrates its tradition and commitment to social responsibility with a week-long schedule of events during the NBA Cares Community Caravan. Members of the NBA Family take part in the week-long schedule of events that benefit the local community.
Since 2001, the NBA has made a commitment to giving back to the city of each conference champion during the NBA Finals. These projects, including the creation and/or renovation of basketball courts, libraries, and technology centers, are designed to leave a positive lasting impact in the respective cities.
Basketball without Borders is the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program that unites young basketball players to promote the sport and encourage positive social change in the areas of education, health, and wellness.
January 12 marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. The NBA Family is helping Haiti develop its greatest asset – a generation of children. Haiti 365 offers a platform for supporters to commit to the children of Haiti via video.
NBA Cares and HandsOn Network partnered to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in an effort to engage and mobilize more than 100,000 volunteers in 1,500 projects across the country. NBA teams and players also payed tribute.
During NBA/WNBA FIT Live Healthy Week, the NBA family joins community members and partners to highlight the importance of healthy living. NBA/WNBA FIT Live Healthy Week features programs and events, as well as in-arena and online programming designed to inspire kids and families across the country to live active, healthy lives.
During the NBA Cares Season of Giving, NBA and NBA Development League teams, players, and staff bring holiday cheer to thousands of people in need by hosting numerous events throughout November and December.
